Adhesive for PVC panels in the bathroom: features of choice

Bathroom design has long been abandoned by the use of traditional tiles of the same color. Today, preference is given to PVC panels, which allows you to quickly create a unique design of the room, thanks to the presence of a variety of colors and textures of the material. However, in order to repair was not only beautiful, but durable, you have to carefully approach the issue of buying glue.

Material Features

PVC panels are most often used for sticking in the bathroom, as this material is able to maintain its characteristics in rooms with high humidity, lack of ventilation and small size. Their service life is up to 10 years, and the price is considered quite acceptable.

This material is implemented in different forms, depending on the purpose of use. Panels can be sheet, rack or tile.

For the design of small bathroom surfaces that do not differ in perfect geometry, the last two options are preferable.

  • The width of standard slatted panels varies from 12.5 to 30 centimeters, and the length from 2.4 to 3.7 meters. They have a low weight, as a result of which they quickly “bond” with glue.
  • Tiled panels are sold in squares, whose sides measure from 30 to 90 centimeters. They are also not heavy and soon begin to interact with glue.
  • Sheet panels are best chosen to glue over the walls, since one large fragment can immediately fill a large surface area. As a result, visible seams and joining points are practically not formed.

For the design of ceilings most often used plastic panels in the form of rails, they are very easy to install. Well suited and tiled models.

How to choose?

The right choice of means, which will have to glue PVC panels together, ensures a long-term and uninterrupted service of facing. If the material is firmly connected to the walls or ceiling, it will not only not peel off, but also prevent the appearance of gaps.High-quality glue used to solve this problem must demonstrate a high ability to connect the panel with the surface to be made.

In addition, he will have to successfully resist temperature changes, not reacting to high humidity, be environmentally friendly and safe for human health. For the installation of PVC panels, it is recommended to choose only transparent versions of adhesives. Antibacterial properties are also considered important; otherwise, regular attacks of bacteria and fungus will be expected.

Finally, it is necessary to pay attention to such indicators as long service life, fast freezing, absence of unpleasant smell.

Usually, the choice of glue is carried out on the basis of the following indicators: drying speed, ease of application, strength of connection with the surface and convenient form of release.

  • These criteria are fully consistent with the liquid nails, recommended by many experts - construction glue based on synthetic rubber with the presence of polymers. They can be used even at low temperatures, down to minus 40 degrees, withstand considerable loads, work with any materials and freeze quickly. In addition, their application is economical, because, thanks to the dispenser, the solution can be applied dotted or spot, grid or zigzag.

Among the products in this category emit "Liquid nails 901" (coping with the fastening of heavy panels; can be used both inside and outside the building) and "Liquid Nails 915" (special composition for bathrooms). It should be recalled that, in addition to numerous advantages, liquid nails demonstrate several drawbacks. They consist of chemically aggressive substances, so work with them can be carried out only under the protection of a respirator and gloves.

After gluing the panels, it is important to provide long-term ventilation in the room to completely eliminate odor. Sometimes it can take from two to three days.

  • In addition to liquid nails, good tools are considered to be "Emfikol 34012A" (durable, transparent and eco-friendly, almost does not smell and is ideal for fixing plastic structures), "Moment Crystal" (besides basic characteristics, it also has heat resistance, colorless and universal) and "Clayberite 636"created on the basis of synthetic resin, which means that it is safe for human health (it is inexpensive, dries quickly and fixes materials of high quality).
  • Alcohol-based substances are also recommended, such as “Naset”, “Dragon” and “Titan”. In general, the glue should be pre-tested in “combat conditions” - attach a small piece of facing material, and after a day try to tear it off. It will be clear how well it works. It should be mentioned that virtually all manufacturers of polyvinyl chloride panels indicate in the instruction which glue is most suitable for work.

"Titanium"
"The Dragon"

Bonding technology

After the adhesive composition is selected, you can proceed to its direct use.

Must follow specific instructions., because if it is not possible to glue the panels properly, then it is quite possible that they will soon get unstuck from the wall or a fungus or mold will start under them.

  • Gluing begins with the preparatory work: you have to remove the traces of old wallpaper or paint, remove the tile and level the surface (here putty will come to the rescue). If bumps and irregularities remain, sticking will deteriorate, namely its quality. For best results, the walls will have to be primed and wait until they are dry.

It is recommended to degrease both the surface of the wall on which the panel will be glued and the PVC strip itself. In that case, if the situation is running, and it is not possible to align the walls with the ceiling, you can make a wooden or plastic crate, and already stick PVC panels on it. It is worth mentioning that working with wood requires processing of the material with a special antifungal compound.

  • Panels are important to bring in the bathroom in advance so that they can rest in the room for about 12 hours. During this time, the material is adapted to the existing conditions.
  • Installation of panels on the walls is usually as follows: it begins either from the door or from the inside corner. First, the final element or corner is mounted, to which all the other strips are joined. The first panel enters the groove of the finishing strip with a narrow shelf, and the main canvas is glued to the wall. All the following panels are connected to the previous ones, due to the presence of grooves.
  • If the panels are sheet, they are simply glued from the doorway or from the corner. The material must first fit to the height of the room.Cutting panels should be carried out exclusively from the front.
  • The glue can be applied either dotted or dotted, but it is important that it does not end up on the edges of the material. Some professionals advise to keep a distance of up to 30 centimeters between glue dots. If the panel is ribbed, then glue is applied only on protruding parts.
  • After applying the adhesive, you need to wait one minute, and only then glue the strip. After the sheet is pasted, it must be strongly pressed against the wall and “rolled” with a rubber roller. You can use the spacers.
  • For the first few minutes there is still the possibility to adjust the location of the panel.
  • There is also such a method: the panel treated with glue is pressed tightly against the wall, then removed from it and left for one minute, and then re-connected to the wall.
  • When the installation is complete, remove the adhesive residue with a clean, damp cloth and remove the protective film from the surface of the panels. Dry construction will be for 24 hours.
  • Ceiling panels are mounted either on a flattened surface or on the batten. The second option is also recommended in the presence of point lights. In the first case, the center is defined on the ceiling into which the first tile is glued. Other panels are arranged in rows parallel to the right and left.

At the final stage of the bathroom design the resulting joints and joints are covered with sealant, and the corners are filled with special plastic elements designed for this purpose.
